*Challenge Refresher Course Description:


The challenge course will consist of 10, eight hour class sessions (which will run 1 day a week)(Sundays). The EMT challenge refresher program uses both written and practical examinations to uncover areas of weakness in didactic knowledge and practical skill proficiency. Refresher students will only be required to attend the sessions that are mandatory and the sessions related to the topics that student's demonstrated weakness in.

For example, if a student did not do well in a certain section of one of the written examinations and they were unsuccessful at a certain skill station the student will be required to attend the lecture and practical skills session, which will be stated on their learning contract and class schedule.

The EMT refresher program course is designed to review skills and didactic information to prepare each student for the New York State written and practical exams.

Review topics will include: Well Being for the EMT-B, Medical-Legal Issues, Airway Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Infants and Children, OBGYN and Operations.

Challenge Refresher Students must pass with a 75% or higher on each written exam to be eligible to waive their attendance.


*CPR portion of the course and also the state practicals are Mandatory for all students.

Refresher Course Description:

This course combines didactic, psychomotor lab and clinical observation to prepare students to provide emergency care to patients in the pre-hospital setting based on the scope of practice defined by the New York State Department of Health and U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on the recognition and treatment of life threatening emergencies. Topics to include: Well Being for the EMT-B, Medical-Legal Issues, Airway Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Infants and Children, OBGYN and Operations.


The Course also includes CPR Health Care Provider Certification, which takes place within the first few weeks of the program.


Midway through the course, refresher students can opt to go out on two 8 hour tours with FDNY EMS. (Not required for Refresher students)

(NYS DOH EMS Requires 10 hours of clinical rotation, Code One gets our students 16 hours of clinical rotation)


Refresher Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to take the New York State Department of Health EMT-B Certification exam.


The refresher student MUST attend all class sessions to be eligible to be tested out on

the state practicals and NYS exam.
